Vogel included some unique designs and some Schimmel designs, typically very high quality components on par with the Schimmel Classic, not Konzert, some elaborate cabinets, but needing more dealer attention than their German cousins. Wilhelm Schimmel is the latest updates to Vogel, re-branded. The salesman didn't say that just the cabinet was assemble in Poland, he said the piano was assembled in Poland.
The Steinway had a nice sound, but I felt it was a bit harsh and the action seemed inconsistent between keys is this something that could be fixed by a tech? Any advice you could give me regarding any of these three pianos would be fantastic. I really like the Yamaha action – very consistent – but I just felt that the sound lacked character (perhaps this is just a prejudice against Yamaha, though).
The other two pianos that I’m looking at are a Yamaha C2X ($25,000) and a used 1982 Steinway Model M ($22,000). Does anyone have any experience with the Wilhelm Schimmel or advice regarding the piano or the price point? The dealer is offering it at $25,000 ($27,500 with tax, delivery, bench, etc.). I played the W180 Schimmel at the dealer and, besides some brightness in the octave above middle C that I think can be voiced down, I really enjoyed it. My dealer told me that all of the internal components are made in the Schimmel factory in Germany and that the only way in which the Wilhelm Schimmel differs from the traditional Schimmel is that the outer cabinet is constructed in Poland. However, there appears to be a dearth of information online regarding the Wilhelm Schimmel. I have played Schimmels before and enjoy their unique tone (much clearer than most pianos, I’ve found), and from what I can see they are held in high regard at this price point.
PianoWorld has always been my go-to resource in the past, but I’ve been unable to find any informational on this particular brand.
